@ERAUVolleyball Rebounds to Down Saint Leo, 3-1

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Led by Sam Lanning's career-high 15 kills the Embry-Riddle volleyball team rebounded from a tough loss at Florida Southern on Friday night to earn a 3-1 win at Saint Leo on Saturday afternoon. ERAU dropped the first set, 25-20, before roaring back to win the final three frames, 25-20, 25-21, 25-22. The win improves the Eagles' record to 9-4, 3-3 in conference play, while the Lions drop to 7-7, 4-2 in league matches.

Lanning led the Eagles with her 15 kills while hitting a match-leading .538; she also had a match-high eight blocks (one solo). Erika Barbour tallied 14 kills and 11 digs while Melanie Canfield chipped in with 12 kills and McKenna James added 11. Alyssa Rudd racked up 51 assists and 14 digs while Olivia Roa collected a team-leading 23 digs.

The Eagles trailed throughout the opening set, falling behind 12-6 early on before rallying to get to within two points at 20-18. Saint Leo scored the next three points and eventually took the set by a 25-20 score.

ERAU also fell behind early in set two, trailing by as many as five points (12-7). The Blue and Gold finally took the lead for the first time on an SLU error that made it 19-18, which came in the midst of a 10-2 run that saw the Eagles turn an 18-15 deficit into a 25-20 victory.

The Eagles got off to a strong start in the third, running out to a 15-6 lead. The Lions clawed back, reducing the margin to a single point on a service ace that made it 19-18, but James put down two straight kills to swing the momentum back to the Eagles' side of the court, and the Blue and Gold carried that momentum to a 25-21 win.

Set four saw both sides hold slim leads early on until Saint Leo used an 8-2 burst to pull out to a 15-10 lead. It would take 15 points before Embry-Riddle was able to get back on level footing with the Saints, when a Canfield kill made it 20-20. After trading sideouts, ERAU scored on three straight rallies, including a Canfield kill and a Lanning block, giving the Eagles match point at 24-21. Saint Leo was able to stay alive for one more point, but a Canfield kill on the following rally clinched the set at 25-22, closing out the 3-1 win for Embry-Riddle.

The Eagles will wrap up this three-match road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 25, with a 7 p.m. contest at Florida Tech.
