Jenkins' Long-Range Shooting Lifts @ERAUMBasketball to Season Sweep of Tars, 79-73

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Elijah Jenkins had himself a career-night on Wednesday, scoring a career-best 29 points, including tying a program record with nine three-pointers to lead the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team to a 79-73 win over Rollins at the ICI Center. The Eagles (10-13, 3-9 SSC) connected on 16 triples in the contest, and registered 25 assists on 30 total field goals to down the visiting Tars (9-11, 3-9 SSC) and earn their first home league win of 2018-19.

ERAU shot 60 percent from the floor and nearly 50 percent from three (16-for-33), but the Tars kept the game close, trimming an 11-point Eagle lead in the second half down to just one with just over a minute remaining at 72-71. Jenkins' eighth trey of the evening with the shot clock winding down pushed the Eagle lead back to four, but Rollins got a pair of free throws from Hunter Yenor to make it a one-possession contest with 44 seconds left. It was the Eagles' sophomore who came up huge once again with a triple at the 21-second mark, making it a five-point game at 78-73 before the Eagles forced a Tar turnover and Alston Jones iced the game at the free throw line.

ERAU took a 43-42 lead into half after Jenkins exploded for 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting in the opening period. Despite ERAU's nine treys in the first half and 62 percent effort from the floor (16-for-26), the visitors were right with the Blue and Gold, led by Connor McKim's 10 points at the break. Embry-Riddle was up by as many as eight early on, taking a 24-16 advantage on a Jenkins three with 11:34 on the clock, but around the seven-minute mark the Tars went on a run, taking an eight-point deficit and turning it into a 32-31 lead on a McKim three with four minutes to play in the first.

Rollins led 40-38 with 1:46 to play, but the Eagles got five quick points, a three from Tylin Lockett-Fuller and a steal and dunk by Jones before Eric Castaneda made a pair of free throws to account for the one-point difference at the half.

The hosts came out of the lockerroom to go on a 7-0 run before a McKim three stopped the Eagle spurt, but a few moments later saw Jenkins bury another jumper from deep, pushing the Eagle lead to it's largest of the night at 58-47.

The Tars continued to chip away over the next few minutes as ERAU went scoreless for nearly six minutes, seeing a 62-54 lead with 12:28 to go dissapear by the time Yenor hit a three at the 7:05 mark of the second half to give Rollins a 63-62 lead. Nashad Mackey made a layup to retake the lead for Embry-Riddle and that sparked an 8-2 run for the home team that included a pair of three's from Nick Heard.

Jakobi Bonner scored four straight points for the Tars to make it 72-71 in favor of ERAU before Jenkins' accuracy from beyond the arc gave the Eagles the win.

Jenkins' nine three-pointers matched Kyle Mas (vs. Susquehanna - Dec. 29, 1998) and Ryan Exter (vs. Edward Waters - Feb. 17, 2007) for the program record. Mackey finished the night with 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, while Jones' 13 assists marked a career-high, and the third-highest in a single-game in program history.

ERAU will look to make it two straight when they travel to Tampa on Saturday, Feb. 2 to take on the Spartans. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
