DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team suffered its first home loss of the season, falling to Lynn 87-66 at the ICI Center on Wednesday. The loss drops the Eagles to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Fighting Knights improve to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Wednesday's game saw ERAU shoot well below its 43.0 percent field goal clip at 37.1 percent (23-of-62), while a hot-shooting Lynn side was 56.6 percent (30-of-53) from the floor for the game. Lynn's Loie Webb led all scorers with 16 points, while Dani Lozzi produced the game's only double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Lauren Ellenberger and
Nikki Tucker were the only Eagles in double-figures on Wednesday as Ellenberger tallied 14 points, five boards and two assists, while Tucker added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists.
The Eagles led 5-0 early in Wednesday's game, but Lynn answered with a 13-2 run to open up a six-point (13-7) lead. ERAU was able to pull within one with 59 seconds left in the first period but the Fighting Knights closed out the quarter with a layup and a last-second trey to reclaim the six-point advantage (23-17).
The second 10 minutes of play saw Lynn match its first quarter scoring output with 23 points, shooting 53.8 percent from the field. The Eagles looked to use the three-point shot to cut into the lead but were 0-for-8 from long range and ERAU's shooting woes helped Lynn take 46-35 lead into the halftime.
ERAU matched Lynn's offensive output in the fourth quarter as each team scored 18 points apiece, but it wasn't enough to catch the Fighting Knights who put the game out of reach by outscoring the home team 21-13 in the third period.
The Eagles will go on the road for the first time in 2019 this Saturday when they travel to West Palm Beach for a 2 p.m. tip against Palm Beach Atlantic.
