Lange Scores Game-Winner In Overtime, Gregson Wins 250th Game As @ERAUMSoccer Wins On Homecoming

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – It was a night of heroics and history at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium Saturday night, as the Eagles defeated the Eckerd Tritons 2-1 in overtime on Homecoming weekend.

The Eagles (3-5-0, 2-3-0) were able to get the night's first goal in the fifth minute, as after Tim-Frederik Lange was fouled in the penalty area, Teddy West converted the ensuing kick as he found the lower left corner for his third goal of the season.

The Tritons (6-4-2, 2-3-1) responded in the 22nd minute, as leading scorer Agustin Pertusso took a pass from Martin Aanestad and snuck one past Jack Crichton with his right foot as he slid to the ground to tie the contest at 1-1.

The remainder of the first half would see staunch defense by both sides, as only two shots were taken after the contest was tied. Just prior to the intermission in the 43rd minute, the Eagles' Christian Mather was issued a red card, meaning the Blue and Gold would be down a man for the remainder of the contest.

As the two teams went into halftime, the Eagles and Tritons were even with three shots each. Mather, Teddy West and Afonso Martins were responsible for the Embry-Riddle shot attempts in the first 45 minutes of play.

The second half of play saw the Tritons come out firing, as they attacked the short-handed Eagles on offense. 12 shots were launched over the course of the second half, three of which were saved by Crichton, while the remainder missed high, wide or were deflected by the defense.

Embry-Riddle managed only three shots in the second half, those coming from Roberto Whitley, Tim-Frederik Lange and Alex O'Brien.

The Tritons held a 15-6 advantage in shots at the end of regulation, as 90 minutes was not enough to decide the outcome of the contest, as the Eagles headed to overtime for the fourth time this season.

The extra period, however, didn't last long as just 26 seconds in, Lange played hero for the second time this week, taking a pass from Olav Olsen Aamlid and firing a shot into the left corner from the top of the box for the game-winning goal, his fifth of the season.

The win was a historic one for head coach David Gregson, as he reached the 250-win mark for his career. Gregson took over the soccer program at Embry-Riddle in 1994, and is in the midst of his 26th season at the helm of the Blue and Gold, and has led the Eagles to the postseason nine times. He is only one of two coaches in the history of the program, and now holds a career record of 250-172-36.

The Eagles will wrap up their three-game homestand on Wednesday October 16 against Rollins College. Wednesday will also be International Student Night at the ERAU Soccer Stadium, as a celebration of the international community at Embry-Riddle and its impact and influence on campus.
