Game Recap: RV Women's Soccer |

@ERAUWSoccer Blanks Florida Southern 2-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Marie Myhrvold Seim scored a goal in each half of play to lead the Embry-Riddle women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Florida Southern, Wednesday at the ERAU Soccer Stadium. The win gave the Eagles their fifth clean sheet of the season and improved their record to 8-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in Sunshine State Conference play.

"This conference is a grind, so any result this late in the season is big," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon noted."We started the game well and put in an early goal. We had some stoppages in play for injury and we let off the gas a bit. So, we addressed it at halftime and returned back to better intensity in the second half. Three points and a shutout is a nice result tonight against a Florida Southern team that can make things difficult. Now, we move on to the next game on Saturday."

The Eagles wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, netting the game's first goal in the third minute. It appeared that a Moccasin defender would be the first to get to a long pass played toward the right corner of the field, but before she was able to control the ball, Isabelle Navren sprinted down the field and dispossessed the FSC player. Navren then squared a pass into an unmarked Myhrvold Seim inside the box and the freshman buried her fifth goal of the year to put the Eagles up 1-0.

A series of injuries on both sides of the field led to somewhat disjointed play for much of the remainder of the first frame. The Mocs managed three shots on frame, two of which required saves from ERAU goalkeeper Dana Ruchti, while the Eagles had four more shots in the half. Neither team was able take advantage of any of those chances and the Eagles took the one-goal lead into the halftime break.

The start of the second half saw the Eagles with an edge in possession. They kept the Mocs pinned inside their half of the field for much of the first 10 minutes and had two shots on frame. At the 57:39 mark, Mikayla Szalay's pass allowed Myhrvold Seim to get in behind the FSC defense and as she raced toward the goal, she was brought down inside the 18-yard box. Myhrvold Seim took the resulting penalty kick and her second goal of the night gave the Blue and Gold a 2-0 advantage.

The final 15 minutes saw a surge on the offensive end for the Mocs, but while they enjoyed a significant amount of possession in the Eagles' half of the field, they were only able to get off two shots, neither of which posed a problem for Ruchti.

Wednesday's game marked the fifth shutout of the season for Ruchti who only had to make two saves on the night. Her FSC counterpart, Jenny Staten had eight saves for a Moc team that is now 4-7-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the SSC.

The Eagles close out their home regular season slate on Saturday when they host Nova Southeastern. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.
