@ERAUMSoccer Fights Hard, But Falls In Double Overtime At Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's soccer team battled through the elements and a tough Barry squad Saturday night, but came up short in the second overtime period by a score of 3-2.

The Eagles (1-5-0, 1-3-0) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of the contest, as Teddy West was able to find his mark just inside the left post on a pass from Tim-Frederik Lange. The goal was the first of the season for West and the fifth of his career.

The Blue and Gold would get on the board again 24 minutes later. After Collins Maude was fouled in the penalty area, West lined up for the penalty kick and sent a shot past the reach of goalkeeper Mirko Ronchi to make it a 2-0 contest.

The Buccaneers (3-6-0, 1-2-0) would be held off the board until the 35th minute, as moments after the Embry-Riddle goal, Kasper Hedegaard would convert a penalty kick to make it a 2-1 game.

A physical first half saw the Bucs outshoot Embry-Riddle 13-3. Freshman goalkeeper Jack Crichton saved 9 shots in the first 45 minutes of play.

After the intermission, both sides battled and put on a strong showing of defense. Barry would break through in the 73rd minute with the equalizer by James Kirkham on a cross from the left side of the box.

Embry-Riddle would try to regain the lead in the minutes to follow, but a shot from Nelson Andres Pusquin was saved, and a salvo from Roberto Whitley was blocked by the Barry defense. Neither side was able to score the go-ahead goal in the final 17 minutes, which meant extra time was needed to determine the outcome.

The Eagles held a 3-2 advantage in shots during the second period, and also had the advantage in corner kicks 3-0.

Barry came out firing in the first overtime period, attacking the Eagles' defense and getting off a pair of early shots but neither finding their mark as one went wide and the other was saved by Crichton. Embry-Riddle managed one shot in the period in the form of West, with two goal already and looking for a third, but it missed wide.

In the second overtime, Barry pressed home their attack once again, getting four shots off in the span of 62 seconds in the middle of the period. The last of those was the game-winner, as Hedegaard was in the right place to take advantage of a loose ball after Crichton saved a shot by Ivan Arenas to end the contest in the 107th minute.

The Buccaneers outshot the Eagles 21-7 (16-5) on the evening. Crichton recorded 13 saves in goal in his first action since the season opener on September 7. 11 cautions were issued during the course of the game, four of which were issued to Embry-Riddle.

The Eagles will have a few days off before they return to play in their final non-conference game of the season against Flagler College on Tuesday at 7 PM at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.
