@ERAUWBasketball Tops Ave Maria 70-48 in Exhibition Game

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team had a strong outing in the final tune-up before the start of regular season play. The Eagles topped the visiting Ave Maria Gyrenes 70-48 at the ICI Center on Wednesday.
 
The Eagles opened the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back. A blistering 71.4% field goal percentage staked the Blue and Gold to a 22-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and at halftime, the advantage had swelled to 20 points (41-21). ERAU was 31-of-67 (48.3%) from the field for the game and led by as many as 28 points, while the defense forced 25 turnovers and held the Gyrenes to just 35.1 percent shooting from the field.
 
Sarah Jones led all players with 20 points, while Nikki Tucker finished with 17 points, six rebounds and two steals. Imani Jones chipped in 12 points off the bench, while Sydney Jones pulled down a game-high seven rebounds to go with eight points.
 
Sarah Miller finished with 12 points and five boards to lead the Gyrenes.
 
The Eagles officially open the 2019-20 season at 2 p.m. Saturday when they host fifth-ranked Virginia Union at the ICI Center.
