@ERAUVolleyball Drops Road Contest at Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team suffered its first 3-0 defeat of the season on Friday, falling at Barry 25-23, 25-19, 25-21. The loss moves ERAU to 18-4 on the season and 11-4 in SSC play, while the Bucs go to 16-10, 9-6 in conference play.

Jordan Schumacher led the Eagles with nine kills and picked up 13 digs, while Melanie Canfield chipped in with eight kills and three blocks. Alyssa Rudd had a team-high 23 assists and Olivia Roa collected a team-leading 21 digs.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair, featuring 10 ties and five lead changes. The Blue and Gold led as late as 20-19, and battled back from being down 22-20 to tie things at 23 on a Camden Bitter service ace, but Barry scored the last two points of the frame to win the set, 25-23.

Set two saw Barry use an 11-3 run to take a 13-8 lead that it would not relinquish. A solo block from Jenna Bishop got Embry-Riddle to within four (22-18), but the Bucs would go on to take the set, 25-19.

The third set saw looked a lot like the opening frame, with 11 ties and four lead changes. ERAU used a 4-0 run in the middle stages to take a 17-15 lead, and the Eagles were the first to 20 when a Bishop and Rudd double-block put them ahead, 20-18. Barry rallied to finish the match on a 7-1 spurt, winning the third set, 25-21, to complete the sweep.

The Eagles will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when they visit Palm Beach Atlantic for a 4 p.m. match.
