Strong Second Half Lifts @ERAUMBasketball to 82-76 Win Over Lee to Close Out GSC-SSC Classic

CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team stayed perfect on the young season on Saturday afternoon, coming back from 10 down late in the second half to defeat Lee (Tenn.), 82-76. The Eagles (2-0) got massive games from Romeo Crouch and Luka Majstorovic and the entire team was great at the free throw line, finishing the contest 27-for-30, going a perfect 2-0 at the Gulf South-Sunshine State Conference Classic for the second straight season.

The Flames, who entered the lockerroom up 37-34 at the half, had extended their lead to double-digits when Beyuan Hendricks made a pair of free throws at the 12:41 mark of the second half to make it 54-44.

Majstorovic, who had picked up his fourth foul earlier in the half and was forced to the bench, subbed in at the next dead ball and the Eagles' lone senior scored a dozen points in the final dozen minutes, and along with Crouch, willed the Eagles to a win.

David Park hit a three with just under 12 minutes to play that sparked an Eagle run, followed by a Crouch layup and Majstorovic bucket to make it 56-54, Lee.

After a Lee basket, Crouch hit his own triple to trim the deficit to one, and the two teams battled back-and-forth, keeping it a close game for the next few minutes.

Trailing 65-61, ERAU scored the next six, starting with a steal and layup from Tylin Lockett-Fuller, and capped with a Lockett-Fuller jumper that gave the Eagles their first lead of the second half at 67-65.

The Blue and Gold built a slim lead of 73-69 with four minutes remaining, but the Flames had one final push, getting a jumper and then a three from Ryan Montgomery to retake the lead, 74-73.

The Eagles came down on the next possession and went right to Majstorovic, and the Serbian delivered an easy bucket to give the Eagles the lead for good, 75-74 with 2:24 on the clock.

Lee had a three-pointer rim out on the next trip down the floor, and neither team scored for the next few possessions. Lee had the ball with a chance to take the lead, but a missed jumper with 30 seconds left was corralled by Majstorovic and the Flames fouled freshman Dru Nickson after he got the ball around midcourt.

Nickson stepped to the line and coolly sank both free throws to extend the lead to three. After a Montgomery jumper with 21 seconds left, Majstorovic went 1-for-2 at the line to make it 78-76.

The Eagle defense held firm one final time as Parker Suedekum's jumper was offline and Crouch grabbed the board before being fouled. Crouch hit both from the free throw line and Lee's in-bounds pass was intercepted and again Crouch was fouled and iced the game at the line, accounting for the 82-76 final.

Lee was the better team in the first half, but couldn't seem to pull away from ERAU. For the second straight game, Majstorovic got the scoring started, laying in an easy one off a feed from Crouch, but the Eagle offense was held in check during the early going as Lee took a 10-9 lead at the 13:50 mark and ERAU couldn't get shots to fall, falling behind 16-11 a few minutes later.

Trailing 20-17 with seven minutes to play in the first, Jenkins hit a triple before the Eagles forced a Lee turnover and Jenkins converted a jumper in the paint for ERAU's first lead since early in the contest.

Lee quickly answered with a 7-0 run and the Flames stayed in front the rest of the period, going up six with 10 seconds left on a pair of Josh Lowe free throws, but Crouch hit a big shot at the buzzer from beyond the arc to make it a one possession game at the break.

Both Crouch and Majstorovic finished with 23 points, combining to go 19-for-21 at the charity stripe. Crouch had seven steals, the third-most in ERAU history, to go along with foru boards and three assists. Majstorovic grabbed eight rebounds for the Eagles. Jenkins scored 18 points with four boards, while Chris Murray had nine points and six rebounds.

The Eagles open their home schedule on Tuesday when they play host to rival Flagler at 7 p.m. in the ICI Center.
