WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team passed another early test on Wednesday night, beating Rollins on the road, 99-66, a result that was never really in doubt. The Eagles (8-1, 2-1 SSC) dominated the glass and forced Rollins (4-3, 0-1 SSC) into uncomfortable shots and turnovers all night, cruising to their fourth straight win in the series.
Romeo Crouch once again led the way for the Blue and Gold with 23 points, seven assists and two steals, while Nick Heard went for a career-high 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting off the bench with six rebounds, four blocks and two assists. Tylin Lockett-Fuller had eight points and a career-best six steals, and Luka Majstorovic erupted in the second half, finishing with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three rejections.
ERAU grabbed 54 rebounds on the night, 29 more than the home team managed. The Blue and Gold shot 49 percent from the field and 40 percent from three (15-for-37) while sharing the ball to the tune of 24 assists.
The first 20 minutes was dominated by Embry-Riddle, as the Eagles used a 17-0 run early in the contest to sprint out to a 23-9 lead, and didn't let off the gas the rest of the period.
Sparking the Eagles early was Lockett-Fuller who had eight of ERAU's first 18 points and his defense, in combination with Crouch, forced Rollins into turnover after turnover as the Eagles pounced.
A Rollins triple at the 9:29 mark of the first brought the Tars within nine, but the Eagles went on a 13-4 run, capped by a Heard layup to balloon the lead all the way to 36-17.
Crouch hit a pair of triples sandwiched around a Heard trey for the final nine Eagle points of the period as the visitors enjoyed a 46-24 lead at the break.
Rollins' 24 points at the break were the second-lowest point total the Eagles had allowed in their Sunshine State Conference history.
Chris Murray scored four of ERAU's first six points to start the second half and when Crouch hit a triple with 17:14 on the clock, the Eagles were up 55-26, effectively putting the game away.
Dru Nickson's three-pointer at the 8:50 mark gave the Eagles a 38-point cushion (80-42) and the bench took it the rest of the way.
Calvin Freeman II made his collegiate debut in the second half and Terry Hu scored the first point of his career with a free throw in the final 60 seconds.
The Eagles are off for final exams and will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. when they host Palm Beach Atlantic in the ICI Center.
