DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team used six straight goals in the second half to turn a 7-5 deficit into an 11-7 advantage and the Blue and Gold held on for an 11-9 win over visiting Montevallo to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Falcons fell to 1-2 with the loss.
 
Jacob Schripsema led all players with three goals while 
Mitchell Cody had two goals and three assists for a game-high five points. 
Jared Kane tallied two goals and 
Coleman Jacobs scored two goals and added an assist. 
Mark Urso was 15 of 23 in faceoffs and picked up a game-high 10 ground balls while 
Lucas Fraser made eight saves to record his third win in goal for Embry-Riddle.
 
The Falcons got on the board first with a goal at the 11:25 mark of the first quarter, but Jacobs answered back less than a minute later to tie it at 1-1. Montevallo scored next before Jacobs netted his second goal at the 5:22 mark to make it a 2-2 game. The process repeated itself once more with the Falcons scoring at 2:35 and Cody tying things up at 3-3 with a score in the final minute of the quarter.
 
Cody scored his second goal in the first four minutes of the second before Montevallo came back to tie the game for the fourth time with a goal with 8:29 left in the half. UM made it 5-4 with 2:20 to play in the period, but Schripsema knotted things up for a fifth time with a goal with 1:59 on the clock; 5-5 would prove to be the halftime score.
 
The Falcons got the first two goals of the second half but over the final eight minutes of the third quarter the Eagle offense came to life, sparked by back-to-back goals from Schripsema to tie the game at 7-7 with 5:59 left in the third. Kane put ERAU ahead 8-7 and 
Gavin Madden made it four straight Eagle goals with a score with 3:44 to play in the quarter.
 
Embry-Riddle carried the momentum into the fourth as Urso won the opening faceoff and promptly scored to make it 10-7, with Kane adding another Eagle tally less than three minutes later to mark the sixth straight Embry-Riddle goal. Montevallo scored a pair of goals in the middle stages of the quarter, but both defenses were solid over the final 6:41 of the game, keeping both teams off the scoreboard the rest of the way, which secured the 11-9 win for the Blue and Gold.
 
The Eagles are back in action at home on Saturday as they wrap up this season-opening five-game home stand with a 1 p.m. contest against Coker.
