Women's Tennis Earns First Win of 2019

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team earned its first win of the spring season on Thursday in a 4-0 victory against Valdosta State at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
 
Roberta Krvajica and Mafalda Soares started the match for ERAU (1-1) with a 6-3 win over Rachel-Chan Yaneff and Amelia Cornwell at No. 3 doubles. Alexis Marshall and Georgina Wood followed their lead with a 6-3 win of their own at No. 2 doubles, defeating Daniella Barta and Eva Rivoal to earn the doubles point. Valdosta State's (0-6) Estee Widdershoven and Hera Brynjarsdottir were leading the match at No. 1 doubles 5-4 against Itxaso Blanco and Jillian Hobbs; however, they were unable to finish the match in the clinch-clinch format.
 
The Eagles carried the momentum into singles play. Wood defeated Barta at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3. Sabrina Ehrenfort followed win a 6-0, 6-3 win over Birte Langestein at No. 3 doubles which gave ERAU a 3-0 lead. Soares would clinch the win for the Blue and Gold by defeating Brynjarsdottir 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.
 
Blanco, Marshall and Hobbs were all leading their contests at No. 1, 5 and 6 singles, respectively, however, the trio of Eagles were unable to finish their matches in the clinch-clinch format.
 
The Blue and Gold will open conference play on Saturday when they travel to Nova Southeastern. The match in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. will take place at 2:30 p.m.
