FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team was unable to get by Nova Southeastern in its Sunshine State Conference opener on Saturday, falling to the seventh-ranked Sharks 7-0 at the NSU Tennis Complex. The Eagles are 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play, while the Sharks improve to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the SSC.
The Sharks earned wins in all three doubles matches to win the doubles point. The 12th-ranked tandem of Ana Navas and Daniela Obando bested ERAU's
Itxaso Blanco and
Jillian Hobbs to open the scoring. Natalie Espina and Sarah Wardenburg topped
Alexis Marshall and
Georgina Wood 6-2 on court two and Isabella Lowery and Diane Follin-Arbelet completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win over
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Mafalda Soares at the third spot.
NSU got its first singles point at the fourth position where Wardenburg topped Marshall 6-2, 6-1. Follin-Arbelet followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Soares at No. 5, and Chantal Nosievici clinched the Shark victory with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of
Maria Secatore on court six.
The Eagles wrap up their two-match road trip on Sunday with a 10 a.m. contest against top-ranked Barry.
