GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, falling to 11th-ranked Limestone 17-7 at Saints' Field. The loss puts the Eagles at 2-1 on the year, while the Saints improved to 3-1.
After Limestone went up 1-0 in the third minute,
Gillian Greenberg pulled the Eagles level with an unassisted score less than two minutes later. However, the Saints, who won the first six draws, scored four unanswered to go up 5-1 10 minutes into the first half.
At the 18:14 mark,
Tori Lammes scored a free position goal to make it 5-2 and the Eagles appeared to further cut into the lead three minutes later, but Greenberg's was disallowed on a controversial offside call that required a lengthy discussion by the officials to sort out.
The disallowed goal took away any momentum the Eagles may have had and the Saints responded with three straight scores on the way to an 11-4 halftime lead.
The Blue and Gold scored three of the first four goals in the second half with Lammes finding the back of the net twice and
Mya Watson helping to make it a five-point (12-7) game with 13:35 remaining in the contest. However, the reminder of the period went to the Saints who scored five times in the last 10:35, including two woman-up opportunities, to take the win.
Lammes led the Eagle offense with five points on four goals and an assist, while Watson added two goals and an assist.
Skylar Mossop and
Mary Catherine Kreider split time in the cage for ERAU with Kreider collecting eight saves in the Eagle effort.
Brittany Ouimet paced the Limestone offense with five goals and four assists. Courtney Lafler also tallied five goals.
The Eagles are back at home on Wednesday, hosting Keiser at the ERAU Lacrosse Field at 7 p.m.
