DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team couldn't keep up with the No. 22 Florida Souther Mocs on Saturday night in the ICI Center as the visitors from Lakeland won 90-73 over the Blue and Gold. The Eagles (11-15, 4-11 SSC) shot just 39 percent from the field, failing to keep up with the Mocs (18-4, 11-3) who finished the night shooting 49 percent from the field and turned 16 Eagle turnovers into 20 points, the biggest difference in the ball game.
Nashad Mackey had a monster game with 17 points and 17 rebounds, while
Luka Majstorovic reached the 1,000-point plateau as an Eagle with 19 markers to go along with seven boards, but it wasn't enough as FSC put four guys into double-figures on the offensive end while also going 16-for-21 at the free throw line compared to ERAU's 10-for-20 effort.
Majstorovic scored the game's first four points to become just the 14th Eagle to get 1,000 career points before his senior season, and ERAU went up by as many as six when Mackey tipped-in a
Tylin Lockett-Fuller miss with 15:22 on the clock. But the Mocs rallied back to take the lead at 18-15 and never relinquished it, racing out to a 13-point advantage at 31-18 on a Slinky Jones layup.
Lockett-Fuller hit a three-pointer at the first-half buzzer to trim the Eagle deficit to 41-31 at the break and the first five minutes of the second half was owned by Embry-Riddle who went on a 10-5 run to open the period, capped by a Majstorovic layup to make it 46-41.
FSC reeled off six straight points after that to regain the momentum and although ERAU got it back under 10 a couple of times over the next few minutes, the hosts could get no closer than three possessions.
The Mocs put the game out of reach with a 26-6 run over a six-minute span, earning the season sweep of the Eagles.
Mackey's 17/17 performance was his 11th double-double of 2018-19, while Lockett-Fuller joined Mackey and Majstorovic in double-figures with 13 points and five steals.
The Eagles head down to Boca Raton on Feb. 13 to take on Lynn at 7:30 p.m.
