DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team was unable to get by Coastal Carolina, falling to the Chanticleers 4-0 at the Crotty Tennis Complex on Monday. The Eagles, who played without two of their top six players, fell to 3-5 overall, while CCU moved to 9-3.
 
The day started with one of the longest doubles rounds of the season for the Blue and Gold. The matches at the second and third spots finished in a reasonable amount of time as ERAU's Andres Donayre and Lucas Bos downed Luiz Faria and Lawrence Perrin 6-2 at No. 2, while Francesco Cori and Daiki Tanabe topped Blake Rowheder and Tim Loerwink 6-2 at No. 3. The deciding match at the top spot lasted almost an hour and, in the end, it was Joel Popov and Zak Talic who staved off three match points and rallied for a 7-5 win over Alexis Guedy and Andrej Omeragic to secure the doubles point for the Chanticleers.
 
The matches at the one, two and four singles all split sets, but the Chanticleers were able to get the three singles wins they need in the clinch-clinch format at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6. Tanabe was first off the court with his 6-1, 6-1 win over Rowheder on court six. Popov followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Bos at the third spot and Hyrkkonen recorded the clincher by besting Loerwink 6-4, 6-1 on court five.
 
The Eagles go on the road on Wednesday for a neutral site match against Augustana at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
