@ERAUMLax Comes Up Short Against Palm Beach Atlantic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team battled back from a halftime deficit to take the lead in the third quarter, but Palm Beach Atlantic was able to rally late to earn a come-from-behind 13-12 win on Saturday in the SSC opener for both teams. The Eagles now stand at 8-3 overall and 0-1 in conference, while the Sailfish move to 6-3, 1-0 in SSC play.

Coleman Jacobs led all players with four goals and added an assist for a five-point night, while Kyle Dalrymple and Mitchell Cody each tallied two goals and two assists. Jared Kane scored a goal and dished out a pair of assists and Mark Urso was 14-of-26 in faceoffs with a team-high eight ground balls. Lucas Fraser made 13 saves in goal for ERAU as his record fell to 8-3.

PBA got off to a quick start with two goals in the first two minutes, but Jacob Schripsema and Jacobs scored less than a minute apart to help the Eagles quickly draw even at 2-2 with 11:36 left in the first quarter. Just over six minutes later, Jacobs put ERAU in front with his second goal, but the Sailfish tied it up two minutes after that; the score remained tied at three through the end of the period.

Palm Beach Atlantic scored the first three goals of the second quarter before Kane put one home to make it a 6-4 game. Connor Bullock and Cody both scored late in the half but the Sailfish also added a pair of late goals, giving PBA an 8-6 halftime lead.

Cody opened the scoring in the third and it was all Eagles for the rest of the quarter. Dalrymple's second goal tied it at eight and Jacobs third put ERAU ahead for the first time since the first quarter. Jacobs added yet another score with 2:31 left in the quarter, building the Blue and Gold lead to 10-8, which is where it would be at the end of the quarter.

Less than a minute into the fourth, Gavin Madden netted a man-up goal to give the home side its first three-goal lead of the game, 11-8. Palm Beach Atlantic got its first goal of the second half just over three minutes into the quarter, and the Sailfish quickly added two more tallies in the next two minutes, tying the score at 11-11. With 6:51 remaining, PBA regained the lead, and with 5:01 to play another Sailfish goal put the visitors ahead, 13-11. Dalrymple scored a man-up goal with 104 seconds remaining, but the Eagles couldn't find the elusive game-tying goal in the closing seconds, falling by a 13-12 score.

Next up for the Blue and Gold is a trip to Tampa next Saturday, March 23, for a 1 p.m. contest.
