DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team was dominant in its win over Young Harris (3-4) on Saturday defeating the Mountain Lions 26-6 at the ERAU Lacrosse Field. The Eagles' fifth 20-goal game of the year avenged last season's loss to YHC and improved the Eagles record to 6-3 overall.
The Eagles outshot the Mountain Lions 46-14, won the groundball battle 44-14, and bested YHC 22-9 in draw controls.
Ten ERAU players got into the scoring column on Saturday.
Elizabeth Ninesling led the Eagles with her season-high five-goals as the Blue and Gold produced the highest single-game scoring output in program history.
McKenzie Jackson added four scores, seven ground balls and seven draw controls, and finished with nine points, just one point shy of her career best.
Ericka Kimble,
Carson Toney and
Mya Watson tallied three goals apiece, while
Kendall Leonard match Ninesling with six draws.
The Mountain Lions kept the game close for the first 18 minutes of play, as they tied the score a 2-2 on Taylor Greenberg's goal at the 21:19 mark, and trailed by just one goal (4-3) with just under 12 minutes left in the first half.
Following a Young Harris timeout, Jackson won the draw and 11 seconds later, she assisted on a Kimble goal that marked the start of a 5-0 Eagle run. YHC managed to add two goals to their tally in the last seven minutes of the half, but the Eagles tallied three in that same stretch to take a 12-5 lead into the halftime break.
The second 30 minutes of play belonged to the Eagles who scored early and often. Toney started things off with a goal just 44 seconds into the half and with 15 minutes left to play, the Eagle lead had swelled to 20-5.
With the visitors trailing by 20 (25-5), Amanda Luckie was able to get a goal back with 4:18 left to play, but Ninesling connected on her third free position attempt with 1:55 remaining to regain the 20-goal advantage and seal the Eagle win.
Next up for the Eagles is a March 22 road trip to Wilson, North Carolina to take on Barton. That contest is slated for 1 p.m.
