MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team went on the road for just the second time in 2019 and picked up its first victory away from home with an 18-12 defeat of Chowan on Saturday afternoon. The win improves ERAU's record to 7-2, while CU falls to 1-5.
Kyle Dalrymple scored a game-high and four goals while
Coleman Jacobs tallied five points (three goals, two assists), as did
Jared Kane (five assists).
Jacob Schripsema added three goals and an assist and
Mitchell Cody chipped in two goals and two assists.
Lucas Fraser made five saves while improving to 7-2 in goal and
Mark Urso was dominant in faceoffs, winning 24-of-29 and collecting a game-high 17 ground balls.
The Hawks got the game's first goal but Cody quickly tied things up and Dalrymple tallied a goal shortly after that to put the Eagles up 2-1. Both teams traded goals back-and-forth with Urso netting the final goal of the period with less than a minute remaining to even the score at 4-4.
Cody opened the scoring in the second, and following a Hawk goal, Jacobs and Urso scored back-to-back markers to push the Eagle lead to 7-5. Chowan quickly responded with two goals in the next 91 seconds and the score would remain 7-7 through the end of the half.
After an evenly-matched first half, the Blue and Gold came out and dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 9-1. Schripsema got the scoring going just over a minute into the quarter, and Jacobs and Dalrymple followed with goals in the first five minutes to make it 10-7. Another Jacobs goal grew the lead to 11-7 at the halfway mark of the quarter before Chowan finally got one on the board to make it 11-8. Less than a minute later, Dalrymple scored his third of the game and
Gavriel Del Villar scored 40 seconds after that to increase the lead to 13-8. The final two minutes of the period saw Schripsema net two goals and Dalrymple add his fourth in a 42-second span, expanding the lead to 16-8 after three quarters of play.
Ian Heggblod and
Connor Bullock notched goals in the fourth quarter for the Blue and Gold as ERAU cruised to the 18-12 victory.
The Eagles will wrap up the non-conference portion of the season on Tuesday, March 12 with a road contest at Barton in Wilson, N.C. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
