ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team battled hard on Saturday but the Eagles were unable to pull off the upset of sixth-ranked Hawaii Pacific, falling 4-1 to the Sharks at Sanlando Park. Ranked 37
th in the latest ITA/NCAA II poll, the Eagles are now 7-9 on the year, while the Sharks improved their record to 12-4.
The Eagles played the Sharks tough in doubles and fell just short of winning the doubles point. The day began with a win at No. 1 doubles for the Blue and Gold as
Alexis Guedy and
Andrej Omeragic defeated seventh-ranked Valentin Masse and Maxime Gayte 6-1. HPU got the point back courtesy of Ondrej Ctverak and Benjamin Locciasano's 6-3 win over
Mickael Faucher and
Blake Rohweder on court three.
Playing at the second position the ERAU tandem of
Lucas Bos and
Andres Donayre took a 5-4 lead against Lukas Bauer and Cheng-Chieh Wang and had three match points, but the HPU pair was able to battle back to take the match 7-5 and secure the doubles point for the Sharks.
The Sharks extended their lead to 2-0 after Loccisano topped Bos 6-0, 6-3 on court three and Bauer made it 3-0 with his 6-2, 6-2 win against Rohweder on court six.
Guedy put the Eagles on the board with a 6-3. 6-4 win against Ctverak at the second spot, but Gayte was able to hold of Omeragic 6-4, 7-5 at No. 4 to seal the win for the Sharks.
The Eagles will be back on the courts on Monday to host 10
th-ranked Lynn at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
