DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team fell to third-ranked Rollins 17-6, Wednesday night at the Tars' Cahill-Sandspur Field. The loss drops the Eagles to 11-5 overall and 2-3 in the Sunshine State, while the Tars remain tied for the lead in the league standings at 4-1 and are 13-1 overall.
The Eagles were led by
McKenzie Jackson who finished with three goals, four ground balls and four draw controls, while
Mya Watson added two scores and two assists, and
Elizabeth Ninesling won five draws.
Rollins jumped out to a 1-0 lead just under two minutes into the contest, before
Gillian Greenberg scored her 32nd goal of the year to tie things up less than two minutes later. The Eagles limited a potent Rollins offense to a single goal over the next 10 minutes, but they were unable to get by the Tars' defense and went 22 minutes without finding the back of the net.
The Tars broke through in the second part of the first half and rattled off eight goals in the last 11:43 to take an 11-3 lead into the break.
Rollins opened the second half with a pair of goals to push the lead to 13-3. The Eagles responded with two goals of their own to make it a nine-goal game, but the Tars outscored ERAU 4-1 down the stretch to seal the win.
The Eagles will close out regular season play at home on Saturday when they host No. 6 Tampa at the ERAU Lacrosse Field. Game time is slated for 5 p.m.
