DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team earned its fourth shutout win of the season on Saturday, downing Sunshine State Conference foe Eckerd (7-5, 0-4) 7-0 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles will take a 5-8 overall record and a 2-2 ledger in league play into Sunday's SSC match against Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Eagles grabbed an early lead after picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to capture the doubles point.
Andres Donayre and
Lucas Bos opened the scoring with a 6-2 win over Will Stone and Matt Spasic on court two and
Mickael Faucher and Blake Rowheder followed with a 6-3 win over Sam Walker and Alejandro Vuconovic at the third spot.
Bos was the first to register a singles point for the Blue and Gold as he topped Spasic 6-2, 6-4 at the third position. The Eagles' next point came on court two where
Alexis Guedy downed Stone 6-0, 6-2, and Donayre scored the clincher with his 6-3, 6-2 victory over Alasdair Knox at the top spot.
After dropping the first set 6-1,
Andrej Omeragic battled back for a 6-2 win the second and earned the Eagles' fifth point of the afternoon with a 10-6 win over Prakrut Patel in the super tiebreaker.
Faucher notched a straight set (6-2, 6-1) win against Vuconovic at No. 5 singles, and Rowheder capped the Eagles' scoring by pulling out a three-set victory on court six, rallying to top Walker 3-6, 6-4, 10-2.
Sunday's match is slated for 1 p.m. at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
