Men’s Tennis Topples Palm Beach Atlantic 5-2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team recorded an upset in Sunshine State Conference play on Sunday, upending 15th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic 5-2 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The win improved the Eagles' record to 6-8 overall and 3-2 in the SSC, while the Sailfish are now 13-4 on the year and 1-4 in league play.

The first doubles win went to the Eagles' second-flight pair of Andres Donayre and Lucas Bos who bested Philipp Hoffmann and Umberto Rossi 6-4 on court two. The Sailfish got the win back when Pietro de Silva and Thomas Salmon topped Alexis Guedy and Andrej Omeragic 6-3 on court one. In the deciding match at the third spot, ERAU's Blake Rohweder and Mickael Faucher fell behind 4-1 but made it close at 5-4 before Rodolfo Hasegawa and Carlos Niemeyer broke the Eagle duo to win the match 6-4 and give the Sailfish a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Playing at the third position in the singles lineup, Bos drew the Eagles level at 1-1 with his 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 win over de Silva. No. 58 Donayre recorded the Eagles' second point with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Rosi at No. 1 to make it 2-1 ERAU.

The next three matches off the court all went to three sets. Faucher won his first set 6-2 against Niemeyer at the fourth spot, but Niemeyer answered with a 6-3 win in the second to force a third set, which went to Faucher 6-3.

Guedy suffered a 6-4 loss in the first to Hoffmann on court two, but the freshman rallied to take the next two frames 6-0, 6-4 to score the clincher for the Eagles.

Omeragic also picked up a three-set victory playing at the fourth spot, downing Hasewaga 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

The Eagles are back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when they host No.8 Lynn at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
