DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Over 700 runners are set to partake in the 17th annual ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic this Saturday on Embry-Riddle's campus. The event, which is one of the premier cross country meets in the state of Florida, will serve as Embry-Riddle's lone home meet of the 2019 season. 19 collegiate teams and 15 high school squads, including eight from Volusia County, are slated to compete on Saturday.
ASICS has served as the title sponsor of the ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic since 2008 with the first-ever ERAU home meet held in 2003. The Embry-Riddle men have won 14 of the previous 16 titles, with the women claiming eight crowns. The Blue and Gold men will be looking for their third consecutive team championship with the women in search of their first since 2015. The course features numerous types of terrain, including athletic fields, grass hills and mulch trails, which make it one of the most challenging courses in the state of Florida.
In addition to Embry-Riddle, the collegiate field will include SSC foe Rollins, as well as NCAA I members Bethune-Cookman and Jacksonville.
Eight Volusia County schools will also compete in the 15-team high school field, including Atlantic, Deltona, Father Lopez, Mainland, New Smyrna Beach, Seabreeze, Spruce Creek and Taylor.
The day's events begin at 7:20 a.m. with the collegiate men's race, followed by the women's collegiate race at 7:50 a.m. The high school girls (8:15 a.m.), high school boys (8:40 a.m.), junior varsity girls (9:05 a.m.) and junior varsity boys (9:30 a.m.) races round out the morning.
