DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - It was a good morning to be an Embry-Riddle Eagle on the campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Saturday. The ERAU men's cross country team dominated the 17th annual ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic en route to their 15th team title of their home event.
Ryan Szklany won his first-ever individual meet crown, crossing the finishing line in 25:53.7, beating out teammate
Calahan Warren (25:55.3) by just two seconds.
Shaun Bullock finished fourth overall in 26:05.1, with
Brian Cheluget placing sixth in 27:13.1.
Austin Epstein (27:41.7) secured the team title with an eight-place showing, rounding out the Eagle scorers.
ERAU placed six more in the top-25, including
Tanner Rosolino (11th - 28:07.),
Justin Nauman (12th - 28:10.9),
John Dennehy (14th - 28:35.5),
Josh Collins (20th - 28:51.6),
Jacob Webster (22nd - 29:05.6) and
Shane Brownrigg (25th - 29:14.8).
Also running for the Eagles were
Drew Hart (39th - 30:42.1) and
Charles Hruda (43rd - 31:03.6).
ERAU totaled just 21 points en route to the team title, the Eagles have won three straight ASICS Embry-Riddle Classic championships and 13 of the last 14.Â
Lake Sumter State College narrowly edged Seminole State College, 95-96, for second place, with Daytona State coming in third with 121 points. Florida State College of Jacksonville rounded out the top five with 138 points.
The Eagles will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to Oregon for the Charles Bowles Invitational on Oct. 5.
