BOCA RATON, Fla. - For the third-straight game, the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team put up a valiant road effort, but couldn't quite get the win as Lynn escaped with a 102-99 victory over ERAU on Saturday. The Eagles (13-6, 5-6 SSC) dropped their first game of the season that they led at half (51-50), but nearly forced overtime as
David Park's last-second shot from deep would have tied it, but the try was short and Lynn (8-9, 4-7 SSC) snapped its four-game losing streak.
Luka Majstorovic had 24 points and nine boards for the Eagles, playing much of the second half with four fouls, as
Romeo Crouch scored 21 points with four assists and a couple of steals.
Tylin Lockett-Fuller finished with 13 points off the bench, while
Nick Heard (11) and
Elijah Jenkins (10) were the other Eagles that reached double-figures.
The crucial stretch of the game came after the Eagles had tied it up at 72-72 with 12 minutes to play, the home team went on a tear over the next three minutes, scoring 14 unanswered points, most of which coming from beyond the arc. Majstorovic stopped the bleeding with a layup at the 8:26 mark, but immediately the Fighting Knights got another triple to extend the lead to 15.
Embry-Riddle put together a big push starting around the six-minute mark, trailing 91-77 ERAU got to within four points on a pair of Lockett-Fuller free throws with 2:35 left on the clock. A Lynn layup pushed the lead to 92-86, but Majstorovic made back-to-back layups to get the Eagles within one possession with 63 seconds left.
The next Lynn possession resulted in a missed shot, but an offensive rebound and put-back gave the home team some breathing room. ERAUÂ was able to get within three points twice over the final 20 seconds, including th last possession of the game when Park's shot came up short.
ERAUÂ started the contest slow, falling behind 18-10, and the Knights stayed in front for most of the opening period, going up by as many as a dozen with seven minutes left. However, the Eagles ended the half on a 26-13 run, getting a three-pointer from Heard right before the horn for a 51-50 lead at the break.
Lynn shot 57 percent from the floor and a very impressive 52 percent from three-point range, while the Eagles managed 47 percent shooting overall and 39 percent from deep.Â
Majstorovic's 24 points pushed him up to 1,426 for his career, into 16th place on ERAU's all-time scoring list.
