The 1998 men's soccer team celebrates after winning the Florida Sun Conference Tournament championship
Join us every Wednesday on erauathletics.com as we take a moment to remember and recognize each of our conference & national championships.

The 1998 season was the 10th season of competition for the Embry-Riddle men's soccer team and the fifth season under Head Coach David Gregson. That year the Eagles took home their first conference championship, winning the Florida Sun Conference tournament title.

The Blue and Gold finished the 1998 regular season with a 12-7 record, going 7-5 in FSC play. The Eagles faced off against Nova Southeastern in the semifinals of the conference tournament, a team that they had lost to at home by a score of 4-2 during the regular season. ERAU avenged that loss in the tournament with a 2-1 victory to advance to the championship game. In the championship, Embry-Riddle would take on St. Thomas, another team that had gotten the better of the Eagles during the regular season – the Bobcats downed ERAU 4-0 in Daytona Beach just a few weeks prior. Once again, the Blue and Gold exacted some revenge, beating STU 3-2 in the title game to earn the program's first-ever conference championship.

By virtue of winning the conference tournament, the Eagles earned a trip to the NAIA Southeast Regional tournament, where they trounced Southern Wesleyan, 7-0, before falling to Life (Ga.), 3-0, to end the 1998 season.

The Eagles received numerous postseason accolades following the 1998 season. At the conference level, Markus Pfeiler was named the FSC Player of the Year after scoring 11 goals and adding eight assists for a total of 30 points. Pfeiler was also selected to the All-FSC first team, along with Stewart Craig (1 goal), Danny McNally (4 goals, 2 assists), and Stefan Oresten (11 goals, 2 assists). Connally Edozien (8 goals, 6 assists), Dario Gravato, and Brian Stec were also named the All-FSC second team. In addition, Coach Gregson was named the FSC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career. Nationally, Craig and Pfeiler both received NAIA All-America Honorable Mention.
