DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team moved to 2-0 on the young season Wednesday, as the Eagles swept Florida National at the Crotty Tennis Complex 7-0.
The Blue & Gold started the afternoon by sweeping doubles play to earn the doubles point.
Mafalda Soares and
Alexis Marshall won by default, while the duo of Roberto Kravjica and
Georgina Wood picked up a win over Candela Bonivardi and Sofia Victoria Pera 6-3. Sabrina Ehernfort and
Julia Mautner completed the three-match sweep with a 6-2 decision over Andrea Guuzman Grana and Nathalia Vivas Gomez.
Heading to singles play,
Maria Secatore recorded a win by default to earn the first point for the Eagles. Mautner was the first Eagle to complete play, winning convincingly over Grana 6-1, 6-0 on court four. Ehrenfort was next off the court, as she defeated Pera 6-2, 6-0 on court two to clinch the match for ERAU. Marshall followed suite just moments later, capturing a victory over Gomez on court three 6-0, 6-1.
Soares blanked Lizabeth Ardanal 6-0, 6-0 in match No. 5 singles to record the fifth singles point for the Eagles. Wood emerged victorious on court one over Bonivardi to finish the sweep 6-0, 7-5, battling to win the second set after being up 4-1.
On deck for the Eagles is Sunshine State Conference foe amd defending national champion Barry, who comes to the Crotty Tennis Complex for a 10 a.m. match on February 22.
