DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team needed just over two hours to earn a 7-0 sweep of Rollins on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue and Gold took all three doubles matches to win the first point of the match and ERAU dominated the singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. The Eagles are now 3-0 on the year, 1-0 in SSC play, while Rollins fell to 1-3 overall, 0-2 in conference.
The Eagles established themselves early in doubles play as
Alexis Guedy and
Lucas Bos made quick work of Andrea Brignacca and Atakan Gezer at the second spot, dispatching the Rollins duo 6-1.
Andrej Omeragic and
Fernando Alonso followed quickly with their 6-2 defeat of Freddy Danielson and Mikkel Baumann to clinch the doubles point on court three. Playing at the top spot in the doubles lineup,
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Andres Donayre rallied after going down a break to down Gai Feigin and Luke Horan 6-4 to complete the doubles sweep.
Ortiz Couder wasted no time at No. 1 singles, downing Feigin 6-1, 6-0, followed shortly by
Tim Loerwink defeating Danielson 6-1, 6-0 on court six to make it 3-0. Donayre provided the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Horan at the two spot. Just seconds later, Bos finished off a 6-3, 6-3 win over Gezer on court four to increase the lead to 5-0. Guedy bested Baumann in straight sets at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1, and Alonso took care of Brignacca on court five, 6-2, 6-3, to complete the 7-0 sweep.
The Eagles will be back in action at the Crotty Tennis Complex on Friday at 3:30 p.m. when they host Barry in another SSC contest.
