DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 24th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team surrendered just five games in doubles play on the way to a 7-0 win over Bentley at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles recorded their fifth shutout of the 2020 season and improved to 7-1 overall, while Bentley evened its record at 4-4.
ERAU's top-flight duo of
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Andres Donayre remained undefeated in dual match play after downing Connor Aulson and Daniel Weitz 6-2 for the Eagles' first point of the day.
Andrej Omeragic and
Fernando Alonso defeated Kendall Au and Jordan Soifer by the same score to clinch the doubles point for ERAU, and
Alexis Guedy and
Lucas Bos combined for a 6-1 win over Alexander Novins and Mauricio Fadul Rubod to make it a doubles sweep for the Blue and Gold.
Donayre was efficient in his win against Aulson at No. 2 singles as he powered past the Falcon junior 6-0, 6-0 to extend the Eagle lead to 2-0.
The Eagles' next point came from Bos playing at the third spot. The junior came from behind to top Soiffer 6-3 in the first set and dominated the second 6-0 to make it 3-0 in favor of the home team.
Playing at No. 1 singles, Ortiz Couder won the first set 6-2 against Weitz. In the second set, Ortiz Couder fell behind 3-0, but the senior stormed back to win the next six games and clinch the Eagle victory with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Weitz.
Next off the court was
Tim Loerwink who downed Au 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5, and he was followed by Alonso who held off Fadul Rubod 6-1, 7-5 on court four.
The last match off the court was at No. 6 where the players split the first two sets as Omeragic won the first 6-2 and Tawan Rattaseri won the second 6-3. In the super tiebreaker, Rattaseri jumped out to an 8-3 lead, but Omeragic scored seven points in a row to win 10-8.
The Eagles' next match is at 10 a.m. on Monday against Daemen at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
