Women’s Rowing Grabs a Win at Head of the South

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Following a canceled regatta last weekend, the Embry-Riddle women's rowing team finished the fall portion of the schedule strong with a win and two fourth-place finishes in three events against Division I and Division II competition at the Head of the South.

The action began late in the morning with a pair of Eagle-powered boats competing in the Women's Championship 4+. Shelby Ernst, Sofia Lorenzini, Helena Schmidt and Bethany Thompson (coxswain Megan Byrne) placed fourth with a time of 17:48.5 just two seconds off Jacksonville's B-boat while Helen Carey, Elise Dezotell, Gwendolyn Powell and Kristen Vigna (coxswain Lauren Enders) stopped the clock at 18:48.9 in 11th. 

No boat was faster in the Women's (NCAA) Freshman Novice 4+ than the one containing Danielle DelGrippo, Caterina Hart, Alexandra Weilert and Alexandria Fife-Winslow (coxswain Courtney Louderback) as the four Eagles claimed victory thanks to a time of 19:13.4, just over five seconds ahead of Tampa.

In the final event of the day, Helen Carey, Elise Dezotell, Shelby Ernst, Sofia Lorenzini, Gwendolyn Powell, Helena Schmidt, Bethany Thompson and Kristen Vigna (coxswain Megan Byrne) placed fourth at 16:20.0 in the Women's Championship 8+.

With that, the fall portion of the Eagles' schedule is completed. The spring slate will be released in the coming months.
