ST. LEO, Fla.—The Embry-Riddle men's cross country team finished fourth overall at the NCAA II South Region Championship on Saturday at The Abby Cross Country Course. The meet, hosted by Saint Leo and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, saw the Eagles score 106 points to equal their finish from the 2019 edition of the event.
Lee won the regional meet with 48 points, while Alabama-Huntsville (59 points) and Mississippi College (97 points) rounded out the top three teams.
"Our men ran a gutsy smart race today and really worked the whole race," ERAU Head Coach
Mike Rosolino noted. "To have three on the All-Region team and five in the Top 28 is impressive. I think we proved today that we deserve to be at the national meet. I'm very happy with what they have accomplished this year."
Competing in his first 10K race for the Blue & Gold,
Paul Kraemer was the Eagles' top finisher, crossing the line in 12th place in 32:29.61.
Ryan Szklany was a close second for ERAU as he finished in 14th in a career-best 32:33.45.
Brendon Shea was 25th in 32:53.49 in his collegiate 10K debut, and
Micah Blair (27th, 32:57.84) and
Tanner Rosolino (28th, 33:02.15) rounded out the Eagle scoring.
By virtue of their finishes, Kraemer, Szklany and Shea earned All-Region recognition.
The Eagles now await the results of other regional meets taking place across the country to see whether or not they will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA DII National Championships.
