BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Sierra Coward had a strong start to her senior campaign as the Embry-Riddle women's track and field team opened the indoor season at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker at the Birmingham Crossplex on Friday.
Coward competed in four events at the one-day meet and began the day with a time of 8.86 in the 60m hurdles in the preliminary round, which marked her fastest time at ERAU. She followed that with a leap of 5.32m (17-5.5) in the long jump, which was also her Embry-Riddle best, and had a PR of 11.43m (37-6) in the shot put. In addition, she ran the second leg for the distance medley relay team that took first place in a time of 13:31.37.
On the track,
Laura McBride improved on her 200m time, crossing the line in 27.13, while
Maggie Allen bettered her previous career-best time in the 3000m set at the same meet in 2019 with a time of 11:22.28.
Back on the track for the first time since 2020,
Rachel Jones ran the fastest Mile of her career, finishing in 5:32.
Ravyn Edge also posted a PR of 5:24.74 in that event.
In the weight throw,
Amberleigh Sauer recorded a personal best 15.15m (49-8.5).
The Eagles will return to the track on Jan. 21 when they travel to Columbia, South Carolina for the Carolina Challenge.
