MIAMI, SHORES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team was unable to get by second-ranked Barry in Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, falling to the Buccaneers 6-1. The Eagles are 1-1 on the year, while Barry stands at 1-0.
The Buccaneers claimed the doubles point with wins at the top two spots as Tim Buttner and Ignasi Forcano topped
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Andres Donayre at No. 1 doubles and Alessandro Giuliato and Hugo Cazaban bested
Lucas Bos and
Alexis Guedy 6-1 on court two. The match at No. 3 doubles saw the Eagles earn their first win of the day as
Fernando Alonso and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo downed Arnau Rodriguez and Alejandro Palacios 6-1.
Barry's first singles point came on court one where Giuliato downed Ortiz Couder 6-2, 6-2. Following Buttner's 6-2, 6-2 win over
Tim Loerwink at No. 6 singles, Forcano held off Alonso 6-0, 7-5 at the fifth spot to clinch the Barry win.
The Eagles got a point back at No. 2 singles where Donayre notched a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over Rodriguez for his second singles win in as many matches.
The Eagles will play again in less than 24 hours hosting Eckerd at the Crotty Tennis Complex at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
