Men's Tennis Bests Eckerd 6-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team returned to the win column on Sunday courtesy of a 6-1 defeat of Sunshine State Conference foe Eckerd at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 2-1 overall and in league play, while Eckerd drops to 0-2.

The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead by winning two of three doubles points. Lucas Bos and Alexis Guedy got the scoring started with a 6-1 victory over Sam Walker and Edoardo Ruggiano at No. 2 doubles, and Fernando Alonso and Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo followed with a 6-2 defeat of Christian Kearns and Alejandro Vucanovic on court three to secure the doubles point.

The doubles match at the top spot was a fierce battle between ERAU's Juan Ortiz Couder and Andres Donayre and Eckerd's Pierre Lasalle and Prakrut Patel. After close to 50 minutes of play the Eckerd duo was able to eke out the win, edging the Eagle pair 7-6 (8-6).

Bos was the first to finish his match at No. 3 singles after dispatching Walker 6-3, 6-1.

With both the ERAU men and women playing dual matches on Sunday. Diaz Rodrigo had to wait approximately 30 minutes for a court to become available for his match. However, the freshman was efficient in his win at the fifth spot, and he finished within minutes of Bos with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Ruggiano to increase the Eagle lead to 3-0.

The clincher came on court four where Alonso got the better of the matchup against Kearns, downing the Eckerd freshman 6-3, 6-1.

Both Tim Loerwink and Ortiz Couder were successful in their singles matches as Loerwink topped Vucanovic 6-2, 6-0 on court six, and Ortiz Couder bested LaSsalle 7-5, 6-3 on court one.

The Tritons' lone singles point came at the second position where Prakrut held off Guedy 7-6 (10-8), 6-2.

Next up for the Blue and Gold is a 4 p.m. match against Rollins on Thursday in Winter Park.
