DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team earned its second straight win of the year on Sunday, downing Eckerd 7-0 at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are 2-1 overall and in Sunshine State Conference play, while Eckerd drops to 0-2 both on the year and in the SSC.
The Eagles took command of the match early dropping just one game in three contests to sweep doubles play and move ahead 1-0.
Julia Mautner and
Sabrina Ehrenfort made quick work of Cassidy Lear and Angelina Kosoff, winning 6-0 at the third position. They were followed quickly by
Roberta Krvajica and
Alexis Marshall who downed Lili Reichert and Theo Schultz by the same score on court two to clinch the doubles point. Teaming up for the first time this season,
Itxaso Blanco and
Mafalda Soares downed Taylor Selby and Alexis Kwasnik 6-1 at the top spot to complete the sweep.
The matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles yielded shutouts for the Eagles as Kravjica blanked Lear 6-0, 6-0 on court two and Marshall duplicated that effort against Reichert on court three.
Playing at No. 4 singles, Mautner scored the clincher for the Blue and Gold, downing Kwasnik 6-2, 6-1.
Playing at the fifth and sixth singles positions, respectively, Soares and
Jillian Hobbs secured the shutout for ERAU as Hobbs bested Kosoff 6-0, 6-2 and Soares downed Schultz 6-1, 6-1.
Their next match will see the Eagles travel to Winter Park on Wednesday to take on Rollins at 4 p.m.
