Men's Tennis Concludes Play at 2021 ERAU Open

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The 2021-22 Embry-Riddle tennis season began this past weekend at the Crotty Tennis Complex as the Eagles hosted the 2021 ERAU Open. The event featured seven separate flights over the course of three days, with weather having an impact, particularly on Friday.

Juan Ortiz Couder's play was a highlight on the men's side as the Madrid, Spain native went a perfect 6-0 with identical 3-0 marks in singles, and doubles play, respectively. Ortiz Couder, playing as one of four men in the Gold Flight, dropped just seven sets in singles play on Friday and Saturday, taking care of Ramiro Rincon (6-2, 6-2) and Philipp Lemken (6-1, 6-2) before battling it out with Nikita Tatyanin on Sunday, emerging with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory to cap his run through singles.

Couder teamed with Alexis Guedy in doubles to produce a 3-0 weekend, ending with an 8-1 dismantinling of Tatyanin and Amilibia on Sunday (8-1).

Guedy was 2-1 in singles play, getting victories over Rincon (6-1, 6-3) and Luc Camps Pasqual (6-1, 6-1), going 5-1 overall on the weekend.

Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo and Fernando Alonso also showed well for the Blue and Gold, both producing 2-1 marks in singles play and teaming up to go 2-1 in doubles. The pair took care of Fisher/Gandara to start Saturday's doubles play and then took down Tatyanin/Amilibia (8-7 (4)) to conclude the day.

Diaz Rodrigo, playing in the Gold Flight, fell in his first singles match of the weekend on Friday morning, but bounced back with marathon wins over Mikhar Fischer (6-3, 4-6, 10-7) and Lemken (6-3, 2-6, 11-9).

Alonso took down Jaewoo Choi (6-2, 2-6, 10-2) and Max Berner (6-4, 6-0) in the Blue Flight.

Tim Loerwink and Luke Paschal also went 2-1 in doubles play, moving past Choi and Camps (8-4) and Holzmann and Denitto (8-7 (5)).

The ITA Regionals are slated for Sept. 24-27 in Lakeland, Fla.
