Women's Basketball Outlasts Lynn, 61-52

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team notched its third road win in Sunshine State Conference play with a 61-52 defeat of Lynn at the de Hoernle Center on Wednesday. The win was the Eagles' second in a row and improved their overall record to 7-8 while evening their league ledger at 5-5.

The Eagles, who bested the Fighting Knights 14-7 on the offensive boards and scored 21 second-chance points as a result, did most of their damage on the inside with 38 of their 61 points coming in the paint.

Keturah Balabyekkubo was the offensive leader for the Eagles, totaling 13 points, three rebounds and two assists. Nikki Tucker tallied 12 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. Liz Behan finished with 10 points and six boards, while Shelby Bischoff contributed nine points, four rebounds and four assists to the victory.

After scoring the first three points of the game, the Eagles went nearly three minutes without another score, allowing Lynn to take an 8-3 lead. The team with the SSC's third-best steals-per-game average, Lynn forced three ERAU turnovers during that run, but the Eagles were able to adjust to the pressure, and after closing out the first quarter with a 10-9 edge, the Eagles went on a run of their own to open up a 10-point advantage (23-13) midway through the second frame.

In a first half marked by runs, the final scoring spurt belonged to the home team as Lynn rattled off a 10-4 run in the last 4:21 of the second quarter to trim the Eagle lead to four, 27-23 at, the half.

Baskets by Behan, Macee Sugrue and Madyson Jean-Louis helped the Eagles widen the gap to nine points (34-25) to start the third, but once again, the Fighting Knights had an answer and Kennedi Philson's jumper at the 4:26 mark made it a one-point (34-33) game.

At the start of the final period, the ERAU lead was only three points (42-39). Left alone on the right side, Balabyekkubo buried her only three-point basket of the game and that score keyed a 12-4 run that staked the Eagles to an 11-point (54-43) advantage.

Uloma Enyogasi's layup pulled the Fighting Knights within six (56-50) with 1:44 remaining, but Lynn was unable to further narrow the gap as the Eagles controlled possession in the final minute of play to come away with the win.

Enyogasi led all players with 17 points and seven rebounds as Lynn moves to 6-8 overall and 4-6 in the SSC.

The Eagles will have a bye this weekend and will resume conference play on Wednesday when they host Rollins at the ICI Center. Tip-off is schedule for 5:30 p.m.
