WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team completed a season sweep of Rollins in Sunshine State Conference play at the Tars' Warden Arena on Tuesday. The Eagles won by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-14 to collect their second win against the Tars in seven days and improve their record to 16-11 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
The Blue and Gold hit .329 for the match, led by
Jaden McBride who had 10 kills and a .500 attack percentage.
Dana Gibbons was perfect on her four swings, hitting 1.000 to go with a career-best six block assists.
Jenna Bishop and Isabela Rujano also put up six block assists apiece while
Devyn Petrowski finished with 18 assists.
Both teams were evenly matched in set one, exchanging the lead seven times and tying the score three times. With score tied at 20-20 the Eagles scored four points behind McBride's serve to open a 24-20 lead. The Tars managed to pull with three on an Eagle service error, but Rujano put down her second kill of the frame to close out the 25-21 first-set win.
More even play marked the start of the second set leading to an 8-8 tie early in the frame. From that point, the Eagles started scoring in bunches, beginning with a 6-1 clip that gave the visitors a 14-9 lead. The Eagles steadily built the lead to seven points (22-15) before closing out the set with the 25-19 win.
The Blue and Gold caught fire in the third set, hitting at a .632 clip. After scoring the first three points of the set, the Eagles went on a 14-2 run to go up 21-6. The Tars put together a run of their own to narrow the gap, but the Eagles scored the final two points of the set, punctuated by a Gibbons kill, to secure the sweep.
The Eagles are back at the ICI Center on Saturday. They will host Florida Southern at 2 p.m. as part of the 2022 ERAU Homecoming.
