DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to No. 12 Eckerd in Sunshine State Conference play at the ICI Center on Wednesday evening. The Tritons shot 42.1 percent from beyond the arc on the way to an 83-52 win over the Eagles. The Tritons (16-2) are now 12-4 in conference play, while the Eagles even their record at 11-11 overall and 9-8 in the SSC.
Three-point shooting helped the Tritons pull away from the Eagles in the first half of Wednesday's game. After connecting on two long-range shots on the way to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter, Eckerd widened the gap with the help of eight made threes in the second frame. On the other side of the ball, the Eagles connected on only seven field goal attempts, which included two treys, and at the halftime break, the Eckerd lead was 24 (45-21).
The Tritons' defense consistently made it difficult for the Eagles to get quality shots in the third quarter, while shooting the ball at a 50 percent (5-of-10) clip. The Blue and Gold continued to battle, however, and outscored the Tritons 21-13 in the last 10 minutes to close out the game.
Madyson Jean-Louis was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 11 points.
Eckerd guard Lauryn Viera led all players with 18 points to go with 10 rebounds and six assists.
The Eagles, who have locked up a spot in the SSC Tournament, have three more games left in the regular season. The first involves a road trip to Miami Shores on Saturday to take on Barry. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
