DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team received its second consecutive victory after downing Ave Maria 6-1 on Wednesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
Jessica Wira Hadipoernomo and
Mafalda Soares got things going for the Eagles (2-3) in doubles action by quickly defeating Andrea Rodriguez Oria and Julia Candiotto 6-1 in doubles No. 2.
Alessia Tripaldelli and
Julia Mautner locked up the opening point for the Eagles after a 6-2 win in doubles No. 3 versus Aethielle Kelkboom and Valentine Colin.
Itxaso Blanco and Carla Cabrero del Hierro fought back against Lara Teodoro and Vitoria Barandas, but the Gyrenes (1-3) managed to take the top-flight doubles match by a score of 6-4.
Ave Maria tied the match at 1-1 after the first singles match was completed. Barandas beat Tripaldelli 6-3, 6-1. From that point on, the match belonged to Embry-Riddle as the Eagles won every point after. Wira Hadipoernomo handled Rodriguez Oria swiftly with a 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles.
Blanco followed with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Teodoro in No. 1 singles. Cabrero del Hierro also defeated her No. 2 singles opponent, Colin, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to secure the victory for the Embry-Riddle.
In No. 5 singles, Mautner needed only two sets as well to down Kelkboom 6-3, 6-1, and Soares capped off the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kely Oliveira in singles No. 6 to remain perfect on the year with a 5-0 overall record.
The Eagles will only have one day to rest before they return to the Crotty Tennis Complex on Friday at 2 p.m. against Valdosta State.
