ANDERSON, S.C. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team battled cold, damp conditions in a non-conference 10-4 loss against Anderson on Sunday. It was the second contest in three days for the Eagles as the team played North Greenville on Friday. The Eagles (2-3) stayed close to the Trojans (4-2) throughout much of the contest until Anderson scored five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to end the game.
Goalie
Lucas Fraser was in good form early on as he saved two shots in the first seven minutes of play. Firm defense by both teams led to a scoreless opening period.
After two more saves from Fraser in the second, Anderson started the scoring with a man-up goal with 3:15 remaining before halftime.
Just over a minute later, the Trojans struck again to move the Eagles' deficit to 2-0. However, Embry-Riddle responded with a pair of scores just 14 seconds apart with under two to play in the half.
Joe Anderson ripped a shot past the goalie to put the Eagles on the board. A short time later,
Michael Forte intercepted a pass and dished the ball
Coleman Jacobs, who shot it into the left side of the net to even the score.
Embry-Riddle grabbed its first lead of the game just over four minutes into the third period when
Marcus Needham gave a short pass to
Pete Abbes behind the net. The redshirt freshman curled around the right side to the front of the net and fired a successful shot in from a few feet out.
However, Anderson surged ahead with three unanswered scores to put the Eagles behind 5-3.
Lars Hoeg gave the Blue and Gold hope with his goal near the start of the fourth quarter, but the Trojans fired five shots over the goal line to push the score to 10-4.
Jacobs led the team in shots (6) while
Ryan Manning collected the most ground balls (6). Additionally, Fraser (2-3) secured 12 saves while manning the net, tying his season high.
Embry-Riddle returns home on Thursday, March 3 to host Davenport at 4 p.m.
