DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle (6-2) men's tennis team earned its fourth shutout of the season on Monday with a 7-0 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (2-4) at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
Monday's match featured a different lineup for the Eagles and those individuals seeing their first action in dual match play this season took full advantage of the opportunity.
The partnership of
Yoav Nir and
Alex Neuman at the third spot yielded the first point of the afternoon for ERAU as the duo blanked Rhian Seneviratne and Lawson McCloskey 6-0.
Michele Iftimie and
Lukas Schneider followed with a 6-2 win over Joshua Giambattista and Mark Slaninka on court one, and
Luke Paschal and
Fernando Alonso completed the doubles sweep with their 6-3 win over Grant Paradowski and Owen Reynolds on court two.
With all six singles players playing a dual match for the first time this season, and some for the first time in their careers, the Eagles lost just 13 games in six singles matches, winning all six contests in straight sets. Paschal was the first off the court with his 6-1, 6-1 win over Slaninka at No. 2.
Jordi Coupe followed with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Seneviratne at No. 5 and Neuman guaranteed the win for the Eagles by topping Corey Pollard by the same score on court six.
After Nir downed Reynolds 6-1, 6-1 at the fourth position,
Pol Fontdegloria bested Paradowski 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, and Alonso closed out the scoring with 6-2, 6-2 win over Giambattista at No. 1.
Next up for the Eagles is a home match against No. 18 Flagler at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
