DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team posted a dominant performance in singles play to knock off Southeastern Louisiana (1-8) 4-1, Tuesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. Playing a clinch/clinch format, the Eagles rallied after dropping the doubles point to secure the four points they needed in singles, improving to 4-5 on the year with the win.
The first win of the day went to the Eagles' duo of Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and
Mafalda Soares who topped Polina Sleptsova and Sonya Kanarskaya 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Polina Pauvona and Bogi Csordas bested
Julia Mautner and
Sabrina Ehrenfort 6-2, and Flory Bierma and Putri Insani secured the doubles point for the Lions by holding off
Itxaso Blanco and Carla Cabrero del Hierro 6-4 on court one.
The Blue and Gold quickly overtook the Lions, winning four singles matches to clinch the victory. As was the case in doubles, Wira Hadipoernomo was the first off the court in singles after making quick work of Kanarskaya 6-0, 6-1 at the third position.
Ehrenfort made it 2-1 for ERAU with her 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Bierma at No. 4 and her doubles teammate, Mautner, followed soon after with her 6-3, 6-0 win over Jordan Burnett on court six.
The clinching point came from Cabrero del Hierro who got the better of her match against Puanova, 6-4, 6-1 at the second spot.
With the team result in hand, the matches at No. 1 and No. 5 were not completed.
