DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team notched its fifth win of the season via a 7-0 shutout of the State College of Florida (3-2) on Friday. The shutout was the Eagles' third of the year and evened their record at 5-5.
The Eagles won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The doubles wins came at the No. 3 spot where
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Julia Mautner downed Luna Mouton and Jenna Gusto, and at No. 1 where
Itxaso Blanco and Carla Cabrero del Hierro topped Kia Carvalho-Landell and Carlota Gascon Martinez 6-4.
Blanco was the first to pick up a point for the Eagles in singles. She dispatched Gascon Martinez 6-1, 6-0 on court one and was followed quickly by Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo who defeated Carvalho-Landell 6-1, 6-1 at the third position to put the Blue and Gold up 3-0.
Moments later, Mautner recorded the clinching point, downing Mouton 6-3, 6-1 on court six. Following Cabrero del Hierro's 6-2, 6-2 win over Lou De Freitas Bonet on court two and
Alessia Tripaldelli's blanking (6-0, 6-0) of Jessica Bustamente on court five, Ehrenfort pulled out a three-set win over Sakurako Suzuki (6-3, 1-6, 10-7) at No. 4 to secure the shutout for ERAU.
Next up for the Eagles is a 3:30 match on Tuesday against Lee at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
