No. 23 Softball Completes Sweep of Lynn

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla - The Embry-Riddle softball team pushed its home winning streak to 12 games with a 6-4 win over Lynn on Sunday at Radiology Associates Field. It was the first time this season the Eagles took to the field on the last day of the week.

With the sweep, Embry-Riddle (21-9, 13-5 Sunshine State Conference) improves to 18-4 all-time against the Fighting Knights (12-29, 0-21 SSC) with a 13-1 mark at home.

After holding Lynn to one run on Saturday, Kelsi Collins continued her dominance in the final game of the series. The senior limited the opposition to just one baserunner in the first three innings with four strikeouts.

It took two frames, but the Eagle bats woke up in the third with a three-run inning. Singles from Savannah Brockenbrough and Maggie Scott, along with a hit-by-pitch to Mahaliyah Sandridge, loaded the bases for ReAnne Drayton, the team's RBI leader. She smoked a ball to right center to score Brockenbrough. Drayton and Scott later touched home on a throwing error from Lynn's pitcher.

The lead was short lived, though, because the Fighting Knights picked up four runs in the next half inning on three singles, a walk, and an error.

Fortunately, the Embry-Riddle offense continued to produce by scoring a run in each of the final three innings. Kelsey Kressler started the bottom of the fourth with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Brockenbrough found open space in center to score Kressler and tie the game.

Drayton then broke the 4-4 tie in the fifth when she came home on Lauren Latoria's double. An insurance run was added in the sixth thanks to an RBI double from Scott to plate Lia Johnson, but it was not needed as the Eagles won 6-4.

Scott registered a season-high three hits in four at-bats to go along with a run and RBI. Brockenbrough was also solid at the dish with a line of 2-for-3 with a run and RBI as well.

Collins (14-4) grabbed her 14th win, a mark that's second-best in the conference. She held Lynn to four runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits and three walks with seven whiffs.

Embry-Riddle has an unusual Thursday doubleheader on April 14 to begin the series against Florida Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
