WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team grabbed Sunshine State Conference win number five with a 6-1 defeat of 43rd-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic (5-8, 2-5) on the road on Tuesday.
Now 14-3 overall and 5-1 in league play, the Eagles started the day with a pair of doubles wins to clinch the doubles point. Playing at No. 1 doubles,
Juan Ortiz Couder and
Luke Paschal earned the Eagles' first point with a 6-2 defeat of Roberto Binaghi and Luis Eduardo Platas.
Alexis Guedy and
Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo made the team score 1-0 when they topped Umberto Rosi and Jorge Santamaria 6-3 at No. 3.
Third-ranked Ortiz Couder extended the Eagle advantage to 2-0 with his 6-2, 6-1 win over Binaghi at the top singles position.
Fernando Alonso made it 3-0 when he dispatched Juan Fernandez 6-2, 6-3 on court six.
At the second spot, No. 15 Guedy secured the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Platas.
The Eagles' final two singles wins were both three-setters. Playing on court four, Diaz Rodrigo bested Rodolfo Hasegawa 3-6, 6-4, 10-2 and
Lukas Schneider capped the Eagles' scoring with a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-8 win over Blake Williams at the fifth spot.
The Eagles are back on the road on Friday for the final match of the regular season. The Eagles will face No. 16 Lynn at 1 p.m. in Boca Raton.
