WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The 22nd-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team returned to its winning ways on Wednesday, downing No. 50 Palm Beach Atlantic 6-1 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Eagles are now tied for sixth in the SSC standings at 3-5 with an overall ledger of 12-7. Palm Beach Atlantic moves to 6-11 overall and 1-8 in the SSC with the loss.
Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo and
Mafalda Soares got the scoring started for the Eagles with a 6-3 win over Elvira Edstrom and Ananabelle Robichaud at No. 2 doubles. Playing at the third doubles position,
Sabrina Ehrenfort and
Julia Mautner bested Frida Alsterhem and Alisa Grachova by the same margin to secure the doubles point.
Eighth-ranked
Itxaso Blanco made quick work of Edstrom 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles to extend the Eagle lead to 2-0, and Wira Hadipoernomo was equally efficient in her 6-1, 6-0 win over Robichaud at No. 3.
The clinching point came at No. 6 where
Alessia Tripaldelli downed Alsterhem 6-4, 6-2. Ehrenfort was next off the court following her 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Cecilia Peroni at No. 4, and Carla Cabrero del Hierro held off Verena Weindl 6-4, 7-5 to close out the Eagles' scoring.
The Eagles close out regular season play in Boca Raton at 1 p.m. on Friday against No. 8 Lynn.
