Men's Lacrosse Wraps Up 2022 Season Against Top-Ranked Spartans

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The 2022 season came to an end on Wednesday afternoon for the Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team as the Eagles fell to the No. 1 Tampa Spartans, 20-10. The Eagles (4-13, 1-6 SSC) played pretty evenly with the Spartans (15-0, 7-0) through the first half, but the third quarter tipped the visitor's way at the ERAU Lacrosse Field.

The Eagles actually out-shot the Spartans, 43-42, and it was the visitors that committed more turnovers (24-22), but ERAU couldn't take advantage of several man-up opportunities, going just 1-for-5 against UT.

The Spartans owned the first six minutes of the game, going up 5-0 before the Eagles could recover, getting their first goal of the day from Coleman Jacobs, who broke his own program record for points in a single season with the score.

Gavin Madden got his first goal of the year a few minutes later, but that's as close as the Eagles got in the first quarter with the Spartans taking a 5-2 lead into the second.

Laws Hoeg and Gage Poindexter scored two of the first three goals in the second period, and when Jacobs collected his second goal of the game at the 7:57 mark, it cut the UT lead to 7-5. However, Tampa registered the next two scores before Poindexter got his second of the quarter right before half, making it 9-6 at the break.

UT owned the third quarter, 6-1, with ERAU's lone score coming from Christian Hofer off a feed from Pete Abbes.

The Spartan advantage grew to as big as 18-7 before Connor Bullock scored and Jacobs completed a hat trick to get the deficit back to single-digits with nine minutes to play.

Hofer returned the favor to Abbes at the 7:57 mark before the visitors struck for the final two goals of the game, accounting for the 20-10 final.

Lucas Fraser made seven saves on the day, finishing the 2022 season with 192 saves, a program record.

Jacobs' three goals put him at 40 for the year, also a program record, to go along with his 55 points in the campaign.

Seven Eagles played their final game in a Blue and Gold uniform: Gav Del Villar, Michael Forte, Gabe Sauvageau, Connor Bullock, Luke Squire, Jacob Morin, and Charlie Wilson all saw action in the finale.
