Men’s Tennis Downs Lynn 4-2

BRADENTON, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team won the third-place match in the Sunshine State Conference tournament with a 4-2 defeat of ninth-ranked Lynn at IMG Academy on Sunday. Sunday's win marked the second straight year that the Eagles topped Lynn in the battle for third and avenged an April 15 loss to the Fighting Knights.

The Eagles had to come from behind to capture the win as Lynn posted identical 6-2 scores at the first and second doubles position to win the doubles point.

The rally began with Fernando Alonso as he defeated Nicolas Cabrera 6-2, 6-1 for the Eagles' first point of the day. In the April 15 meeting between the two schools, Diego Gonzalez was able to get by Juan Ortiz Couder in three sets. But today's match at the top singles spot belonged to the ERAU senior as Ortiz Couder won in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) to give the Eagles a 2-1 edge.

The Eagles' third point came on court four where Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo outlasted Gianmarco Anmatiste 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).

Lynn got a point back with a three-set win on court two, but Lukas Schneider pulled out a third-set victory of his own at the fifth spot, defeating Gabrielle Felline 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 to clinch the victory for the Blue and Gold.

The Eagles are now 16-5 on the year and will await the announcement of the NCAA II tournament field to learn if they will compete in regional play.
